Program Evaluation
An evaluation of the Youth Apprenticeship program (now Youth Career Connections) completed by Applied Management in Fredericton in 1999, and still apply in 2007, included some of the following statements in their conclusions:
- "The YAP made careers in high skilled occupations more appealing and accessible"
- "YAP Students provided increased access to current technology used in business and industry in NB".
- "YAP parents and students indicated a very high level of program success in fostering of independent learning skills, self- motivation and positive work habits"
- "YAP participants and their parents believed the YAP to be very successful in helping students assume responsibility for their own learning".
- "YAP participants and their parents perceived the YAP students' skills to be enhanced to a higher degree than the comparison group felt they had enhanced their skills through summer and/or part-time employment".
- "YAP graduates and their parents perceived that the student was more able to cross train or transfer their skills acquired to other careers/employment areas".
- "YAP participants used their employment experience to enhance their skills in a career in which they were focused".
- "YAP participants and their parents gave the program high marks. Particularly so for enhancing skills".
- "Most employers surveyed rated YAP as effective in assisting employers to obtain employees who are motivated, academically prepared, appropriately trained and already possessing related work experience".
